Some teas come from farms. This one comes from family. Uncle’s Tea is our tribute to the Taiwanese uncles who have been drinking this exact kind of tea their whole lives — quietly, unhurriedly, without fuss. A gentle blend of chrysanthemum and osmanthus, naturally caffeine-free, fragrant, and deeply soothing. The kind of cup that makes any time of day feel a little more like home.

In Taiwan, chrysanthemum and osmanthus teas have been a part of daily life for generations. Walk into any traditional home and there’s a good chance someone’s uncle is sitting with a warm cup nearby — reading the paper, watching the world go by, completely at ease. There’s no ceremony to it. No rules. Just a beautiful, fragrant cup that happens to make everything feel better.

That’s exactly the spirit we wanted to bottle with Uncle’s Tea. It’s not trying to be the most complex tea in the collection — it’s trying to be the most comforting. Caffeine-free, naturally floral, and gentle enough to enjoy morning, afternoon, or evening, it’s the tea you reach for when you just want to slow down and breathe.

The Ingredients

Chrysanthemum

Chrysanthemum has been used in Chinese and Taiwanese herbal traditions for centuries. Its flavor is clean, lightly floral, and gently sweet — with a delicate quality that makes it one of the most universally loved herbal infusions in East Asia. Beyond its taste, chrysanthemum is traditionally valued for its cooling and soothing properties, making it a popular choice when you want to unwind without caffeine. It’s the quiet heart of Uncle’s Tea.

Osmanthus

Osmanthus is a small, intensely fragrant flower native to Asia, and one of Taiwan’s most beloved floral ingredients. Its scent is famously described as apricot-like — warm, sweet, and slightly fruity — and even a small amount transforms a cup completely. In Taiwanese culture, osmanthus is associated with warmth, family, and the changing of seasons. Paired with chrysanthemum, it adds a gentle depth and sweetness that makes Uncle’s Tea feel like something truly special.

Brewing Guide

Hot Brew — the classic way

  1. Water temperature: 212°F / 100°C (fully boiling)
  2. Steep time: 7–10 minutes — longer than oolong to fully draw out the floral depth
  3. Re-steeps: Each tea bag can be steeped 2 times. The second steep is mellower and even more delicate.
  4. No need to watch the clock too carefully — unlike some teas, Uncle’s Tea doesn’t turn bitter with a longer steep

Cold Brew — fragrant and refreshing

  1. Place 2 tea bags in 600ml / 20 oz of room temperature filtered water
  2. Cover and refrigerate for 8–10 hours overnight
  3. The floral sweetness of osmanthus and chrysanthemum becomes beautifully pronounced cold — naturally sweet with no added sugar needed

Uncle’s tip: Let it steep a little longer than you think. The chrysanthemum and osmanthus open up gradually — give them the time they deserve and they’ll reward you with a richer, more fragrant cup.

Pairing Suggestions

Uncle’s Tea is gentle and floral, making it one of the most versatile drinks in the collection:

Light Taiwanese snacks — pineapple cake, sesame crackers, or rice crisps

Almond cookies, shortbread, or any lightly sweet biscuit

Fresh fruit — especially peach, apricot, or melon, which echo the osmanthus notes

A quiet afternoon, a good book, or a conversation with someone you love

Bedtime — fully caffeine-free, so you can drink it right up until lights out

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Uncle’s Tea made of?

Uncle’s Tea is a blend of two classic Taiwanese herbal ingredients: chrysanthemum and osmanthus. Both are naturally caffeine-free, traditionally used in Taiwanese and Chinese herbal culture, and together they create a floral, lightly sweet cup that’s as comforting as it is fragrant.

Is Uncle’s Tea really caffeine-free?

Yes, completely. Chrysanthemum and osmanthus are both naturally caffeine-free herbs — there is no tea leaf in this blend at all. That means you can enjoy Uncle’s Tea any time of day or night without worrying about sleep disruption or caffeine sensitivity.

What does Uncle’s Tea taste like?

It’s light, floral, and gently sweet — imagine a warm, fragrant cup that smells like a garden in bloom. The chrysanthemum brings a clean, cooling floral quality, while the osmanthus adds a soft apricot-like sweetness. Together they’re deeply calming and incredibly easy to drink. No bitterness, no astringency, just pure floral comfort.

Who is Uncle’s Tea named after?

It’s named after the Taiwanese uncles in our family — the ones who have been quietly sipping this kind of tea their whole lives. In Taiwan, chrysanthemum and osmanthus tea is the kind of drink you’ll find in traditional homes, often enjoyed by the older generation with a calm, unhurried ease that we wanted to honor. Uncle’s Tea is our way of bringing that spirit to you.

Can children drink Uncle’s Tea?

Yes — because it’s completely caffeine-free and made from gentle floral herbs, Uncle’s Tea is suitable for all ages. It’s a wonderful alternative to sugary drinks for kids, and many families enjoy it as an after-dinner herbal drink together.

Is Uncle’s Tea good for sleep?

While we don’t make medical claims, chrysanthemum has been used in traditional herbal practice for its calming and cooling properties for centuries. Because it’s completely caffeine-free, it’s a great choice for an evening wind-down ritual. If you’re looking for a tea specifically blended for sleep, also check out our Bonne Nuit Tea.

How is Uncle’s Tea different from the other caffeine-free teas?

Uncle’s Tea is our most traditional blend — a simple, classic pairing of chrysanthemum and osmanthus that feels deeply rooted in Taiwanese everyday life. Bonne Nuit is blended specifically for evening relaxation and sleep, while Rose Garden Tea leans more floral and romantic. Uncle’s Tea is the everyday one — the cup you’d find on your uncle’s kitchen table at any hour of the day.

The DAE Difference

Calvin and Kimberly grew up watching their family drink teas like this — without fuss, without ritual, just as a natural part of the day. Uncle’s Tea is the most personal product in our collection because it comes directly from that memory. The chrysanthemum and osmanthus we use are sourced with the same care we give to all our teas — clean, quality ingredients, packed in plastic-free tea bags, and made to be enjoyed exactly the way our uncle always enjoyed his: slowly, and without any rush.
